For operations covering 10–50 ha, the most practical entry point is subscribing to an RTK correction signal rather than buying a dedicated base station.

Mechanical cultivation instead of herbicides: where precision is non-negotiable

An organic farmer growing corn, sunflower, vegetables, or small grains will fight weeds with a cultivator. That cultivator must track exactly between crop rows without touching plants. Several RTK network operators are active in Ukraine. Some offer day passes or annual subscriptions. The farmer needs no base station — only an RTK-capable GNSS receiver on the tractor and a stable mobile internet connection in the field to receive corrections.

Minimum starter kit for a small farm

To get a tractor receiving RTK corrections and moving with centimeter precision, three components are needed:

  • RTK antenna or RTK-capable GNSS receiver — mounted on the tractor, receives satellite signals and network corrections. This component determines the final accuracy of the whole system.
  • Autopilot or lightbar guidance system — either an automatic steering system (autopilot) or a display terminal with a guidance arrow for the operator. An autopilot delivers full automation; a lightbar is a simpler and less expensive starting point.
  • Mobile internet in the field — to receive RTK corrections from the network operator. 4G coverage exists in most Ukrainian districts, but it is worth confirming in advance. Where connectivity is limited, some operators support a local base station or radio modem as a fallback.

For an organic farm it is also important to confirm that the autopilot supports saving guidance lines and tramlines between seasons. This feature is what makes it possible to repeat the same seeding rows year after year — so the cultivator tracks the same inter-row spaces it did the previous season.
